SAN ANTONIO NEIGHBORHOOD
The Patron Saint of this neighborhood, San Antonio, is celebrated on June 13th. People who come to visit him have the opportunity to drink the Holy Water of San Antonio. This water is stained with stick from Brazil and perfumed with incense.
The church of San Antonio was founded by Franciscan friars at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, just few years after the Temple of San Francisco.
The festivities in this neighborhood start by receiving San Diego de Alcala, to this temple on an “official visit.” The sculpture is placed on the altar and stays there for the nine days of the festivity.
In the same church an image of the Virgen de la Medalla Milagrosa is venerated. It was brought from Paris in the first decade of the 20th century, by the bishop Orozco and Jimenez. The celebration starts on November 19th, to November 27th. This neighborhood is well known because of the production of fireworks.

TRADITIONS
The temple of this barrio is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. The festival starts with the reception of Saint Diego de Alcalá, who comes on official visit from his temple. An altar is arranged and he stays for a novena or nine days. Those who attend to view the patron saint have the opportunity receive the holy water, dyed with rosewood and perfumed with incense, set out for the public.

CRAFTS AND FOLK ART IN THE SAN ANTONIO NEIGHBORHOOD
This neighborhood is characterized by the dedication to pyrotechnics. The tradition dates back 150 years and has been carried on by generations of craftspeople in a place called “la galera”. One of the craftsmen recognized in the barrio is:
· José Vallinas Ramos. Trade: mason. Works in all skills related to masonry and construction. Aged 42 year with 17 years in the trade and of the first generation of masons in his family. Also is known for its ability in the manufacture of fireworks. Besides its role in the preparation of various traditional plates is recognized. |
