MEXICANOS NEIGHBORHOOD
This neighborhood dates since Diego de Mazariegos arrived to this city.
As it is known the Spanish conquerors organized the people they let free from the Aztecs to help them dominate the rebels. The people who came with him set in this area. It was founded in 1528 and people occupied the left side of Rio Amarillo. The construction of the church was around 1594 but it was destroyed by a flood in 1652. It is dedicated to the Virgen de Asunción (Mary transported into Heaven with her body and soul united).
This neighborhood also celebrates the Virgen del Transito (Mary´s physical death), and the Coronation of the Virgin (as the Queen of all of us). The Semana Santa is also celebrated with the representation of the Passion and Death of Christ.
Some historical events occurred in this neighborhood, such as the combat between the partidaries of the Emperor Maximiliano in 1864 or the liberal forces of Crescencio Rosas and Pantaleón Domínguez who fought against rebellious indigenous.

TRADITIONS
The Semana Santa (All Saints holiday week) is celebrated with great enthusiasm in this neighborhood with a parade of the representation of the Passion and Death of Christ and plenty of fireworks. As to its distinctive productive character.
The temple is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. Every year the transit (the physical death), the assumption (the elevation to heaven), and the Coronation (as queen of all creation) of the Virgin Mary are celebrated on August 13th, 15th, and 18th.

CRAFTS AND FOLK ART IN THE MEXICANOS NEIGHBORHOOD
This neighborhood is distinguished for the produce and colors of the Nahua people, originally from Central Mexico. There crafts include weaving, confectionery, spinning of threads, brick making, and other various crafts and labors. Some people also make traditional candies.
Some of the master craftsmen recognized in Barrio Mexicanos are:
· Francisco Álvarez Montoya. Textile trade. Works in the elaboration of Nahua textile designs, dyes and tints of cotton. Aged 73 years with 63 years in his trade and being of the second generation of craftspeople in his family.
· Gilberto Núñez Cruz. Trade: loom weaving in the Nahua tradition. Works in the dyeing of thread and fabrication of tablecloths, cloth serviettes, curtains, rugs, carpets, bedspreads, guayabera shirts, dresses, and suits for weddings and quinceñeras celebrations, etc. Aged 30 years with 20 years in the trade and of the first generation of craftspeople in the family.
